Our placements enable the participants to link their training to their aspirations for the future. Trainees are able to gain real-life working experience in a UK company, incorporating English linguistic skills, life skills, and professional skills. Collectively these enable trainees to complete the programme with a greater understanding of life, new competencies and work-readiness.
UKWP guarantees high quality work placements and will ensure that you will be able to use your skills learnt in training/university and gain valuable international working experience. We have established links with hundreds of companies, ranging from very small business with just 2 employees to international companies.
Our Placements
The placements we arrange vary in length from 2 weeks to 24 weeks in national and international companies. We require 4 weeks from receipt of CV to secure the correct placement for trainees, but please note that for some specialist training, longer may be required.
Once the CV is received with the trainee’s requirements our placement team will contact companies on our database who would be suited to the trainee. Companies may ask for supporting documentation, email correspondence, or telephone interviews before making a final decision.
Once the prospective company confirms the placement offer, UKWP will confirm the company details and other relevant information to the partner organisation and trainee.

To ensure your placement is going according to plan, the UKWP team will be your point of contact throughout your placement. We will also keep track of your progress by sending you regular review forms and maintaining regular telephone/email contact.
In addition, UKWP will also find suitable accommodation if you require, hence taking away all the pressures of moving to a different country. UKWP offers students and trainees a complete and comprehensive service from the day we receive your application to the day you finish your placement.

Parents are naturally concerned for the welfare of their children, especially when they are away from them, but please rest assured that your child is being looked after.
Our staff at UKWP are fully trained and experienced. All our language teachers, host companies and host families are regularly inspected, and monitored to ensure your child receives optimum care during their time with us.

UK Work Placement offers the following accommodation types:
Self-Catering Accommodation
For trainees conducting their language course in Preston and trainees with work placements in Preston, we can organise self-catering accommodation in the city centre area in the form of student accommodation, with all facilities and amenities close by.
The accommodation is a secure single room with bed, wardrobe and desk. Each room has a private en-suite shower room with shower cubicle and toilet.
Trainees must bring their own single pillow case, single duvet cover and single bed sheet. The actual duvet and pillow are provided by UKWP.
Rooms are usually in a cluster of 4–6 rooms. These rooms share a kitchen and communal area.
The kitchen is fully equipped with cooker, oven, fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. Cutlery and crockery are provided by UKWP.
Trainees buy food and cook for themselves. Supermarkets are close by.
Minimum term: 1 week.Homestay Accommodation
Homestay accommodation can be secured for trainees staying in Preston and in other major towns and cities. We have established a good network of homestay families in different locations.
Those in Preston are within travelling distance to our offices, and all homestay accommodation has great transport links enabling trainees to get to their work placement companies and generally move around easily.
Rooms are single or sharing, with access to the bathroom and washing facilities, and communal areas.
Homestay accommodation is usually half-board, including breakfast and the evening meal.
Breakfast is usually on a help-yourself basis, whereas evening dinners are cooked with an opportunity to sit down and socialise with the host family.
Our host families vary; some are young couples, some retired couples, and others middle-aged with children.
All our host families offer a warm and inviting home, with time to engage with trainees. We make an effort to get to know our host families to ensure our trainees are in safe hands.

Becoming a host family is hugely rewarding and the feedback we have received from host families has been very positive.
Host families should be able to provide a secure & private room for the student to stay in, on a half-board basis, ensuring any dietary requirements are catered for.
It is imperative that the Host Parents are able to give time in the evenings to the students so they are able to experience the local culture & family life, and provide any relevant support.

UKWP places trainees in companies across the UK. These companies are from a variety of sectors and vary in size, but all have appreciated the injection of fresh ideas, enthusiasm and motivation that trainees bring under the Erasmus+ programmes.
Trainees gain invaluable experience that cannot be bought, and host companies gain fresh perspective and an enthused workforce, so both parties benefit.
Our host companies are local, national and international businesses, with lots to offer to our trainees. They have seen the advantages of offering placements and like to offer regular positions.
The work experience placement programmes are funded by the European Commission so there are no costs incurred by companies.
The funding covers all or part of travel to and from the UK, accommodation, living costs, local transport, cultural visits and health insurance.
The funding also covers an intensive language course for the trainees, which is usually offered in the UK prior to the placement start date.
We are constantly making links with new companies who are interested in making space in their business for trainee placements.

Depending on location of accommodation and work placement, local travel is usually necessary.
Within Preston there are two main bus service providers: Preston Bus and Stagecoach.
Their weekly passes enable trainees to come to our offices, get to their work placements, and also meet up with each other in the town centre.
In other cities there may also be multiple modes of transport for which a travel pass would be most beneficial.
The costs of passes depend on the city and the breadth of the travel incorporated.
UKWP are happy to arrange passes for trainees.

UK Work Placement regularly assist in travel arrangements from your home city to Preston.
Travel options we can arrange are:
Preston is based in the Northwest of England and is well-served by public transport, including coaches, trains and road.
The closest airports are: Manchester and Liverpool.
Rail Travel: The train service from Manchester airport to Preston is regular and convenient. Via train, London to Preston is approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes.
Public Coach: All UK airports have national coach services which operate from the airport. The coach from Manchester airport to Preston takes approximately 2 hours.
Private Minibus: For larger groups of more than 5 trainees, we can arrange a private minibus for the group. This will include our “Meet & Greet” service and will ensure your transport is waiting for you regardless of delays.
Private Car/Taxi: For up to 4 participants we can arrange a private car/taxi for your airport transfer. This will include our “Meet & Greet” service.
Return Travel: All the above services are also available for the trainee’s departure from the UK.
Timing & Costings: To ensure we are able to confirm your airport transfer arrangements, we require flight details at least 2 weeks prior to arrival.
The cost of each option depends on the number of passengers and the airport. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
UK Work Placement are pleased to offer high quality English language courses to our trainees prior to their work placement start.
Classes take place at our office premises. We completely understand that a short course of up to 3 weeks will not make any learner an expert, but our course aims to make learners more confident in English and in their surroundings.
Our classes cater for learners at every level, from basic to advanced, and usually follow the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR).
Our language course has its formal elements, which incorporate speech, pronunciation, listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary.
An array of resources are used during classes and specific elements which trainees would like to develop can be incorporated.
But a classroom does not have to be enclosed in four walls. Our teachers make every effort to help students feel comfortable in their surroundings.
During the first few weeks of their stay, trainees are given the tools to become more comfortable and less daunted by life in the UK.
Teachers encourage trainees to explore Preston, including facilities and amenities, places to eat, places to shop, currency exchange, communication options, transport options and other points of interest.
Students prepare tasks which encourage trainees to talk to the general public in the streets of Preston. This enables trainees to get used to hearing English spoken to them by different people and with different accents.
Every student who completes a language course with us will receive a certificate of completion.

Preston’s location and transport links enable us to take advantage of many places of interest within Preston and surrounding areas.
Outings of this nature benefit trainees by showing a different aspect of British life, outside classes and work. Trainees gain the opportunity to sight-see and learn about British culture.
